Welcome to Maryland! Immediately after coming off the bridge from Virginia, there is a traffic light at which Clay Street (MD 28) begins on the right.

The state welcome sign and the sign for Frederick County are located just past the traffic light. After a short distance, there is a traffic circle at Point of Rocks Road (MD 464).

Since this an undivided road with a speed limit of 55 MPH in Maryland, motorists are required to use their headlights at all times.

Catoctin Mountain Highway merges with Jefferson National Pike (US 340).

US 340 is signed as if it were multiplexed with US 15 along Jefferson National Pike, although it officially ends back at the merge. There is an unnumbered exit for Mount Zion Road.
