I-270 is a highway running diagonally from the Capital Beltway (I-495) in the suburbs of Washington to I-70 in Frederick. It is designated a north/south route, although it runs as much east and west as north and south. It is the most direct route from Washington to the western panhandle of Maryland and, through it, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
