DE 48 is an east/west route through Wilmington and its suburbs. It begins in Hockessin where DE 41 turns from Lancaster Pike onto Newport Gap Pike. Lancaster Pike continues east as DE 48. Coming into Wilmington, it changes Lancaster Avenue. At Union Street (DE 2), Lancaster Avenue becomes an eastbound one-way street. Westbound traffic follows Second Street, which runs parallel one block to the north. After crossing I-95, Lancaster Avenue becomes Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. A short distance thereafter, it ends at Walnut Street (Business US 13).
